Is a DockATot safe for babies to sleep in?
No. Do not use a DockATot-style lounger for sleep. Use a firm, flat crib, bassinet, or play yard.
What's actually in it
A DockATot-style lounger is a padded fabric product with raised sides. It may look cozy, but cozy is not the safe-sleep standard.
The main risk is physical sleep safety. Babies need a firm, flat, non-inclined surface. Soft sides, pillows, loungers, and positioners can sit near the face and make breathing less safe.
What the research says
CDC safe-sleep guidance says babies should sleep on their backs on a firm, flat, non-inclined surface, such as a safety-approved crib mattress covered only by a fitted sheet.
NICHD Safe to Sleep guidance warns that wedges, positioners, and similar products do not meet safe-sleep guidance. It also says to keep everything out of the sleep area except a fitted sheet on the mattress.
Use loungers only for supervised awake time. If baby falls asleep in one, move them to a crib, bassinet, or play yard right away.
