What PFAS are

PFAS are persistent chemicals used in some nonstick coatings, grease-resistant packaging, stain-resistant treatments, and contaminated water supplies.

This page is not saying one pan or one package changes fertility. The useful question is whether higher PFAS levels in the body are linked with reproductive timing.

What the research says

A 2026 NHANES study in Toxicology Letters looked at 4,743 U.S. participants. Higher serum PFOA, PFHxS, and PFNA were linked with earlier menopause. The study also linked several PFAS with shorter reproductive longevity.

This was a population study. It found associations, not proof that PFAS caused earlier menopause in one person. Reproductive health is shaped by many factors.

What to do at home

For daily food contact, choose uncoated materials when you can. Glass, porcelain, stainless steel, wood, and bamboo are useful kitchen swaps. Avoid heating oily food in coated or plastic packaging.
