Yellow Food Dye Is Disabling Brain Function in Studies

Chronic exposure to tartrazine (Yellow #5) causes brain dysfunction and behavioral changes. It even reduces sex drive. All from a food dye in your chips and candy.
What the Study Found
A 2026 study fed tartrazine to zebrafish chronically and found it led to disability in brain function, behavioral alteration, and sex drive reduction. Zebrafish share over 70% of their genes with humans, making this a strong translational model.
The dye didn't just change behavior. It physically impaired brain function. That's not a cosmetic concern. That's neurotoxicity from a food additive.
What You Can Do
Avoid Yellow #5, tartrazine, or E102 on food labels. Skip artificially colored foods. Choose products colored with turmeric, beet juice, or other natural alternatives.
