What is hiding in your home?
Researchers recently measured 113 different chemicals in the urine of pregnant women in Atlanta. They weren't looking for one or two isolated incidents. They found a cocktail of parabens, phthalates, and organophosphorus flame retardants circulating through the bodies of participants during mid-pregnancy. This 2026 study confirms that our current national surveillance systems are failing to track the sheer volume of emerging chemicals we encounter daily.
The seasonal spike
The data revealed that concentrations of fungicides, herbicides, and flame retardants spiked during warmer months. This suggests that your home environment and the products you bring inside are not static. These chemicals are off-gassing and leaching into your living space, and your body is absorbing them. The study found clear links between these chemical groups and specific home characteristics, proving that where you live and what you buy directly dictates your internal exposure levels.
Take control of your space
You cannot control the air in your city, but you can control what you bring into your nursery and kitchen. Start by ditching products treated with flame retardants and swapping out plastic food storage that leaches phthalates. You don't have to replace everything overnight, but you can start making safer choices today. We have curated a collection of non-toxic baby alternatives that are tested and free from these common chemical offenders. It is time to stop letting these industries treat your home like a testing ground.
