You are likely carrying PFAS into your home every time you buy a new piece of waterproof clothing or pick up takeout in grease-proof packaging. A recent study in Chemosphere found that 87% of textiles and 61% of food contact materials tested contained significant amounts of these chemicals.

The problem is how they test these items. Standard testing often misses the hidden precursors that break down into toxic substances later. When researchers used a specialized TOP assay to force these precursors to reveal themselves, they found concentrations of harmful PFCA compounds spiked by a factor of 1,300 in textiles and 420 in food packaging. These aren't just trace amounts. They are massive, hidden reservoirs of chemicals that are currently being restricted for their toxicity.

Manufacturers are still using these short-chain PFAS even though safer, fluorine-free alternatives exist. It is a choice, not a necessity. You do not have to wait for regulations to catch up to protect your family. Start by auditing the gear and kitchen items that claim to be water or grease resistant. When you are ready to replace them, we have curated a list of non-toxic home alternatives that are tested and proven to be free from these hidden precursors.
