Your baby is consuming PFAS through breast milk. A 2026 study published in Scientific Reports found measurable levels of PFOA and PFOS in the breast milk of nursing mothers. These are the same persistent chemicals used in nonstick cookware, waterproof fabrics, and food packaging.

While the study found that some samples stayed below certain U.S. EPA reference doses, 12% of samples exceeded EFSA benchmark values for PFOA and 16% exceeded them for PFOS. These chemicals are known as forever chemicals because they don't break down. They accumulate in the body and are linked to endocrine disruption.

You cannot control every environmental factor, but you can control what comes into your home. Start by ditching nonstick pans that shed coatings and opting for stainless steel or cast iron. Avoid stain-resistant sprays on your furniture and carpets. When it comes to your nursery and feeding gear, prioritize materials like glass, silicone, and organic cotton. We have curated a list of non-toxic baby alternatives that help you reduce your family's daily chemical load without the guesswork.
