Your child's daily multivitamin might be delivering a dose of manganese that exceeds safety limits. A 2026 study published in PLoS One found that 88.5% of the supplements tested contained more manganese than what was listed on the label.

Researchers analyzed 52 different products and found the average difference between the labeled and actual content was 42.5%. Even more concerning, 34.6% of the supplements would exceed the Institute of Medicine's tolerable upper intake levels when added to a normal diet. Manganese is an essential mineral, but excessive exposure during neurodevelopment is linked to serious health risks.

To make matters worse, half of the products that didn't even list manganese on the label contained measurable amounts of it. You shouldn't have to guess what is in the bottle you give your child every morning. We believe in transparency and rigorous testing, which is why we curate non-toxic baby alternatives that you can actually trust. Check your labels, talk to your pediatrician, and stop relying on brands that can't even get their own ingredient lists right.
