Heavy Metals in Early Pregnancy Linked to Childhood Asthma

NonToxCo Research
Science & Safety Team · 4/6/2026
Heavy metal mixtures measured in early pregnancy are linked to worse lung function and higher asthma rates in children by mid-childhood.
What the Study Found
A 2026 study from Project Viva measured metal mixtures in early pregnancy and followed the children into mid-childhood. The metals were associated with reduced lung function and increased asthma risk. The exposure happened before birth, but the effects showed up years later.
What You Can Do
Test and filter your water during pregnancy. Choose low-mercury fish. Avoid cosmetics with heavy metals. Talk to your doctor about environmental exposure.
