The Reality of Your Baby's Food
More than 60% of baby foods and infant formulas contain detectable levels of lead, cadmium, and arsenic. A 2026 scoping review published in Nutrition Reviews analyzed 580 baby food products and 251 infant formulas, confirming that toxic heavy metals are widespread in the products we trust to feed our children.
The numbers are difficult to ignore. For infant formulas, over 60% of stage 1 and 2 products exceeded international maximum levels for lead. Even more concerning, 71% of certain formula categories exceeded safety limits for arsenic. In baby food, rice mixes and fish mixes were frequent offenders, with 89% of mixed fish items exceeding arsenic safety thresholds.
What You Can Do Now
You cannot control the global supply chain, but you can control what enters your home. Start by auditing your pantry for processed rice-based snacks and cereals, which consistently show high metal concentrations. Prioritize whole, single-ingredient foods where you can track the source and minimize processing.
We know how overwhelming this is, but you don't have to guess which products are safer. We have curated a selection of non-toxic baby alternatives that prioritize ingredient transparency and rigorous testing. Switching to cleaner, verified options is the most effective way to protect your baby from unnecessary exposure.
