Endocrine Disruptors Activate Genes That Drive Endometriosis

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals activate specific genes that drive endometriosis. The link between everyday chemicals and this painful condition now has a genetic roadmap.
What the Study Found
A 2026 systematic analysis identified EDC-responsive genes linked to endometriosis. Chemicals like BPA, phthalates, and dioxins activate genes that promote the growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus.
Endometriosis affects about 1 in 10 women and causes severe pain, heavy bleeding, and infertility. It takes an average of 7-10 years to diagnose. If environmental chemicals are triggering it through specific gene activation, that's a preventable cause.
What You Can Do
Minimize EDC exposure. Avoid plastic food containers. Choose fragrance-free products. Use non-toxic cleaning supplies. If you have endometriosis, reducing chemical exposure may help manage symptoms.
