You are drinking microplastics every time you grab a plastic water bottle. A 2026 study published in Drug and Chemical Toxicology confirms that a single exposure to polyethylene terephthalate (PET)—the material used in almost every disposable water bottle—triggers metabolic and gastrointestinal disruption.

Researchers at the U.S. EPA administered a single dose of PET microplastics to test subjects and monitored the results for 18 hours. The findings, detailed here, show clear evidence of systemic toxicity. Males experienced significant drops in metabolic rate and insulin levels, alongside changes in duodenal gene expression. Females showed decreased metabolic rates and dose-dependent increases in serum LDL.

These particles do not just pass through you. They are already being detected in human arteries and brains. If you are still relying on plastic for your daily hydration or food storage, it is time to stop.

Ditch the plastic and switch to glass or stainless steel. It is the only way to avoid these particles leaching into your system. We have curated a selection of non-toxic kitchen alternatives that keep your water and food free from synthetic materials. Start swapping your plastic bottles today.
