Your baby’s lungs are being shaped by the chemicals you encounter while pregnant. A 2026 study in Environmental Research found that prenatal exposure to bisphenols and phthalates significantly increases the risk of respiratory conditions in infants.

Researchers tracked bisphenol phthalate exposure in pregnancy and baby asthma outcomes. They found that higher concentrations of these endocrine-disrupting chemicals in maternal urine were directly correlated with a higher incidence of wheezing and diagnosed asthma in the first year of life. You can read the full breakdown of the data here.

These chemicals are everywhere. They are in the plastic containers you use for meal prep, the vinyl flooring in your home, and the synthetic materials in your nursery. You cannot avoid every single particle, but you can lower your total load.

Start by ditching plastic food storage for glass or stainless steel. Swap out synthetic nursery textiles for organic cotton. We have curated a list of non-toxic baby alternatives that are tested and proven to be free from these specific endocrine disruptors. Stop the exposure before it starts.
