Aspartame promotes ovarian cancer progression. A multi-omics study using genetic data and lab validation confirmed the connection.

What the Study Found

A 2026 study combined Mendelian randomization, network toxicology, and in vitro validation to show that aspartame promotes ovarian cancer. The genetic evidence (Mendelian randomization) provides causal support, and the lab experiments confirmed the mechanism.

Ovarian cancer is one of the deadliest cancers because it's usually found late. If a common food additive is promoting its growth, that's a public health problem hiding in every diet soda.

What You Can Do

Avoid aspartame. Check labels for aspartame, NutraSweet, and Equal. Choose unsweetened beverages. If you have a family history of ovarian cancer, reducing aspartame exposure is a simple precaution.
